About Me

I am a West Coast girl, born and raised in beautiful Vancouver, B.C., who is married to the love of my life, Michael.  We've been married for 8 years and between the 2 of us we have 4 awesome kids, ages 7, 11, 12 and 14.  Family life keeps us busy and we wouldn't have it any other way!!  I love reading blogs that inspire me to be the best me I can be and recently I have felt motivated to make our house into our HOME.......by personalizing it, adding character and organizing!  One DIY project at a time!

One thing I want to share with you on this blog is the reason I started writing it.  I am on a temporary medical leave from a job I love, I was bored and needed to do something, to learn something that wouldn't take up too much energy.  So I started a blog...and I fell in love with the blogging community.

Why am I on leave?

Well, at the beginning of December 2011 I started hemorrhaging, actually I had been bleeding almost everyday since March, but I put it down to stress from my mom passing away.  I did have it checked out over the summer, but I didn't hear anything, so I figured, "hey, no news is good news!"  Short Rant: Ladies, we must start being advocates for our own health.  Doctors are only human, they make mistakes, but you know your body and you know when something is wrong.  End Rant.  Anyways, after hospital stays, biopsies and tests and more tests and being called into the doctors office "right away" (never a good sign) I was diagnosed with Complex Hyperplasia with Atypia.  To give you a simple explanation, it is a pre-cancerous condition (of the uterus) that if left untreated will turn into cancer (30% of the time they find cancer when they do a hysterectomy).  So at only 36 years of age, I have to have a hysterectomy (I am very blessed to already have had my children).  I am on some heavy duty hormones that slow down the growth of the cells, and they make me feel, well....crappy actually. So writing this blog has really been good for me, I can do it in bed if I need to, I can post about projects I have already done before this diagnosis and I can make new friends...all while waiting for surgery.

If any of you or your friends have had or need to have a hysterectomy, I have found a great website for support, it's called Hyster Sisters, and I have had so many of my questions answered there.

Please feel free to email me any questions or let me know if you could use some support and I'd be happy to be there for you.  Together we can kick cancer's butt!
